This week, Hawthorne has been participating in the Start With Hello program, which is aimed at teaching students how to include others and to become more connected to one another. The 2nd-5th graders have had assemblies, a visit from the Minerva Park police and lots of other activities throughout the week. On Friday, students (and teachers and staff!) have been asked to wear green to school, one of the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary.

Volunteer Challenge: Did you know you can have an influence on your student’s school? Does your student enjoy field trips? Field Day? Participate in student groups? Enjoy the Holiday Shoppe? Scholastic Book Fair? The Parent Teacher Organization is made up of parents and school staff and teachers that work together to organize as well as raise funds to support many of these activities and to purchase needed items (including supplies for the playground, school office, classrooms and much more). And we really need YOU to keep it going! To inspire you, we are having a 2-hour Volunteer Challenge that will reward you with valuable experience helping the school and gives your student’s classroom the chance to earn a prize! It kicks off with our next PTO meeting on February 8 at 7pm and there are many other ways to participate-see the flyer here and step up to have an influence on Hawthorne!

Our school directory will be completed and distributed soon after we return to school! This will be a little booklet that will have class lists, school information, calendar and contact information for families that have provided it. We want to make sure everyone who wants to be is included. If you have not, please fill out the form at the link or email firstname.lastname@example.org with the parent/guardian names and contact info as well as student names, grade and teacher.
On another note, a big thank you goes out to Melissa Christian for running our holiday shoppe last week! And thanks to all the amazing volunteers! And to everyone who shopped – the kids loved it and we hope you get some nice presents!
Once again, the PTO would like to wish you happy holidays and a wonderful time with family and friends!
Do you still have some Amazon shopping to do before the holidays? Please remember to #StartWithaSmile at smile.amazon.com/ch/31-1134585 and Amazon donates to the Hawthorne PTO!
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us this year through our fundraising activities or by volunteering! By participating in our fall fundraiser, going to Skatezone, shopping at Five Below or at Amazon and Kroger, as well as our book fairs and holiday shop (or by giving your time to these activities!), you are helping the PTO to be able to continue supporting school activities like field trips, field day, and student groups and many other activities. THANK YOU and have a great holiday season!
We hope everyone who ordered is enjoying their new spirit wear! We have set Friday, December 2 as a day to wear your school spirit gear if you have it. And if you did not order yet, you can still do so online at http://mannestores.com/hawthorne. Please note you can select store pick up to avoid shipping costs!
The weekend of December 2-4 we will be doing a fundraiser with Five Below. Bring in the flyer, which will be distributed at school, and do some holiday shopping while also supporting your school! You can also download the flyer by clicking here
Also, as we complete our school directory, please let us know if you have a business you would like to advertise. Gain exposure and help us offset the printing costs!
And one final but important note, please remember to #StartWithaSmile at smile.amazon.com/ch/31-1134585 as you do your holiday shopping and Amazon donates to the Hawthorne PTO! Thanks for your support and have a great Thanksgiving!
Hi – we’ve added a number of people to the email list who signed up with the directory forms. If you do not wish to receive emails from the PTO, just click unsubscribe at the bottom of the email. The directory is still in progress and hopefully will be out before the holidays. If you have not completed the form and wish to be included, please do so here: https://goo.gl/forms/bnPZMDmXJGYPsZmR2
Our Holiday Shop will run from 9:30am-3pm, Mon-Thu, Dec. 12-15th. This is a super fun opportunity for the kids to do a little gift giving on their own. You have the option to send in money for them to spend at the onsite store hosted by Hawthorne PTO. But as with any store, it will need workers, so if you have some time to volunteer your skills, please contact Melissa Christian at email@example.com.
Also, a flyer will be going home about a text alert program the Minerva Park Police are participating in. You can see the flyer and read about it by clicking here
